The Estate
Domaine de la Mordorée 2015 — A Biodynamic Pioneer
The Delorme family established Domaine de la Mordorée in the southern Rhône Valley, where they have cultivated vineyards across both Tavel and Châteauneuf-du-Pape with unwavering commitment to biodynamic viticulture. Indeed, the estate has earned full Demeter certification for its organic and biodynamic practices, placing it among the region’s most environmentally conscious producers. Moreover, under the visionary leadership of Christophe Delorme until his passing in 2015, the domaine ascended to stand alongside the southern Rhône’s most acclaimed estates.
Although Christophe’s loss marked a poignant moment, cellarmaster Rémy Chauvet has seamlessly continued the domaine’s legacy of excellence. The estate produces two distinguished Châteauneuf-du-Pape cuvées: La Dame Voyageuse and the flagship La Reine des Bois, launched in 1996. Furthermore, critics have consistently praised Mordorée’s ability to craft wines that express both power and elegance, capturing the essence of this legendary appellation in every vintage.
Terroir & Grapes
The Hallowed Stones of Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s extraordinary terroir defines this wine’s character from vine to bottle. The vineyards rest upon the appellation’s iconic galets roulés—large, rounded river stones deposited millennia ago by the ancient Rhône—which absorb daytime heat and radiate it back to the vines through cool Provençal nights. Additionally, layers of red clay and limestone beneath these stones provide essential water retention during the region’s arid summers, while the Mistral wind sweeps through the vines, naturally concentrating flavours and preventing disease. This allows Mordorée’s biodynamic viticulture to flourish without synthetic intervention.

Vinification & Ageing
Biodynamic Precision Meets Traditional Craft
Domaine de la Mordorée approaches winemaking with the same biodynamic philosophy that guides their viticulture. The estate hand-harvests each parcel at optimal ripeness, allowing native yeasts to initiate fermentation in traditional concrete vats that preserve the wine’s inherent minerality and freshness. Moreover, the winemaking team employs gentle extractions to capture the full aromatic spectrum whilst maintaining elegant tannin structure. Following fermentation, the wine undergoes careful élevage in a combination of large oak foudres and smaller French barrels, which add complexity without overwhelming the fruit’s purity.
Vintage Character
2015 — The Best Since 2015
The 2015 vintage in Châteauneuf-du-Pape stands as a landmark year, widely considered the finest since the celebrated 2010. Indeed, critics have described 2015 as a remarkable cross between the voluptuous richness of 2009 and the energetic structure of 2010, delivering the best qualities of both vintages in a single, harmonious package. The growing season blessed the appellation with generous ripeness, deep colour extraction, and silky, fine-grained tannins that showcase both power and elegance. Furthermore, the vintage delivered consistently exceptional quality across all price points, making it a collector’s dream year.
Domaine de la Mordorée lists 2015 among its greatest vintages, and the wine earned the prestigious Or medal at the Concours Général Agricole Paris. Additionally, tasting notes from barrel samples following Christophe Delorme’s passing confirmed that “the estate is obviously still in incredibly capable hands,” demonstrating seamless continuity in quality and style under cellarmaster Rémy Chauvet’s stewardship.
Tasting Notes
Silky Power and Provençal Soul
This Domaine de la Mordorée 2015 reveals the vintage’s hallmark characteristics beautifully: generous depth of colour in the glass, while aromas unfold in layers of dark cherry, blackberry, and garrigue herbs alongside notes of lavender, black olive, and cracked pepper. On the palate, the wine displays remarkable concentration balanced by the vintage’s signature silky, smooth tannins that coat the mouth with fine-grained elegance rather than brute force. Moreover, the biodynamic farming shines through in the wine’s vibrant energy and mineral backbone, which lifts the rich fruit and carries the finish through a long, spice-laden conclusion. Although powerful in structure, the wine never loses its sense of refinement and terroir expression, showcasing why 2015 stands among Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s modern classics.

This structured yet silky Châteauneuf-du-Pape pairs magnificently with roasted leg of lamb studded with garlic and rosemary, daube provençale braised in red wine, or grilled côte de boeuf with herbes de Provence butter. Moreover, the wine’s garrigue aromatics and peppery notes complement game dishes beautifully—think wild boar terrine, venison medallions, or duck confit. For cheese, consider aged Comté, Ossau-Iraty, or a selection of washed-rind cheeses from the Rhône Valley. Although approaching its drinking window now, the 2015 vintage rewards patience; indeed, cellaring through 2030 will reveal even greater complexity and integration of its generous structure.
