Tasting Profile
The 2018 Château Lafite Rothschild opens with a deep, dark garnet-purple robe and a nose that, while still somewhat closed, reveals extraordinary depth. Aromas of black and red fruit, cedar, cassis, and iris gradually unfold, underscored by pencil lead, star anise, and iron ore. On the palate, the attack is powerful yet supremely refined — medium-bodied with a laser-precise backbone of very fine-grained tannins and remarkable tension. The finish is long, fresh, and multi-layered. Rated 98/100 by critics, this is widely regarded as one of the finest expressions of Lafite ever produced.
Food Pairing
Ideal alongside a classic Pauillac-style roast rack of lamb with herb crust, where the wine’s cassis and cedar notes complement the meat’s richness. Also superb with aged Comté or Époisses cheese, allowing Lafite’s silky tannin structure and mineral depth to shine through.
