Tasting Profile
As Far As the Rye Can See pours a near-opaque coal black with a modest ring of khaki foam that quickly yields to a thin mocha collar, leaving faint legs when swirled in the snifter. The nose is immediately commanding — rich bourbon oak, dark chocolate fudge, vanilla cream, espresso, and a sharp, warming rye spice that signals the complexity to come. On the palate, the mouthfeel is full-bodied, syrupy, and lightly coating, with restrained carbonation that lets the flavour profile breathe. Waves of chocolate brûlée, espresso, dark molasses, honeycomb, and smoked dark cherries unfold in sequence, underpinned by a pronounced yet harmonious rye whiskey character that adds pepper, charred oak, and dark bread depth.
The sweetness is bold but never cloying, balanced by a lingering roasted bitterness and astringent booze warmth. The finish extends beautifully with charred oak, prune, and rye spice. At 18.7% ABV, this is a slow, meditative sipper best appreciated at cellar temperature, and it rewards patience — making it equally compelling as a cellaring candidate for years to come. Food Pairing
The Bruery As Far As the Rye Can See pairs magnificently with a wedge of aged Comté or Gruyère, whose crystalline, nutty richness echoes the beer’s caramel and oak depth. Equally compelling alongside a dark chocolate and salted caramel tart — the bittersweet cocoa mirrors the imperial stout’s fudge and espresso notes while the salt cuts the sweetness and highlights the rye barrel spice.
