The Estate

Château Feytit-Clinet — Pomerol’s Hidden Gem

Château Feytit-Clinet occupies a privileged position in the heart of Pomerol, neighboring some of the appellation’s most illustrious estates including Château Clinet and Château L’Église-Clinet. This intimate 6.3-hectare property has been under the stewardship of the Chasseuil family since 1976, who have quietly elevated the estate to produce wines of remarkable depth and refinement, eschewing commercial expansion in favor of quality and terroir expression.

The domaine’s modest production—rarely exceeding 2,000 cases annually—and the family’s traditional, non-interventionist approach have earned Feytit-Clinet a devoted following among connoisseurs seeking authentic Pomerol character without the stratospheric prices of its more famous neighbors. Recent vintages have showcased an impressive evolution in elegance and precision, reflecting both improved viticulture and the estate’s commitment to revealing the pure expression of its exceptional terroir.

Terroir & Grapes

Clay and Gravel on the Pomerol Plateau

Feytit-Clinet’s vineyards lie on the prized central plateau of Pomerol, where deep clay subsoils meet a surface layer of iron-rich gravel—the geological signature that gives Pomerol its distinctive character. This terroir naturally favors Merlot, which thrives in the water-retentive clay, producing wines of remarkable concentration, velvety texture, and sumptuous fruit purity. The gravelly topsoil provides excellent drainage and contributes structure and aromatic complexity to the final wine.

Vinification & Ageing

Traditional Pomerol Craftsmanship

The estate employs traditional Pomerol methods with meticulous attention to detail: manual harvesting in small crates, careful parcel-by-parcel vinification in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel tanks, and gentle extraction to preserve the Merlot’s silky texture. Fermentation proceeds with indigenous yeasts, followed by an extended maceration period to fully integrate tannins and develop aromatic complexity.

The wine is then aged for 14 to 16 months in French oak barriques, with approximately 40% new wood to frame rather than dominate the fruit. Regular bâtonnage and racking ensure optimal integration, while minimal fining and filtration preserve the wine’s natural character and terroir expression—hallmarks of the Chasseuil family’s respect for tradition and authenticity.

Vintage Character

The Exceptional 2019 Bordeaux Vintage

The 2019 vintage in Bordeaux is widely regarded as one of the finest of the modern era, combining the richness of 2009 with the elegance and precision of 2010. An ideal growing season featured a warm, dry summer with strategic rainfall at key moments, allowing the grapes to reach perfect phenolic ripeness while retaining crucial freshness and acidity. For Pomerol’s Merlot-dominated estates, 2019 produced wines of exceptional concentration, depth, and aging potential.

The Right Bank particularly benefited from optimal conditions during the September harvest, with Merlot achieving magnificent balance between power and finesse. Château Feytit-Clinet’s 2019 captures this vintage character brilliantly—offering the opulent fruit and velvety texture characteristic of great Pomerol, underpinned by vibrant acidity and refined tannins that promise decades of graceful evolution.

Tasting Notes

Opulent Pomerol in Full Bloom

The 2019 Feytit-Clinet opens with an exquisite bouquet of ripe black cherry, cassis, and damson plum, interwoven with notes of violet, graphite, and subtle exotic spice. On the palate, the wine reveals classic Pomerol opulence—densely concentrated dark fruit coated in layers of silky, fine-grained tannins, with a seductive mid-palate richness balanced by vibrant acidity. The finish is long and harmonious, displaying excellent freshness alongside hints of dark chocolate, truffle, and minerality that speak to the estate’s privileged terroir. This is Pomerol at its most complete: powerful yet elegant, immediately seductive yet built for extended cellaring.

This sumptuous Pomerol is the ideal companion to refined red meat preparations: think perfectly aged côte de boeuf with bordelaise sauce, roasted rack of lamb with herb crust, or duck breast with cherry gastrique. The wine’s velvety texture and concentrated fruit also harmonize beautifully with earthy dishes featuring wild mushrooms, truffle, or game—venison medallions with cassis reduction would be sublime. Rich, aged cheeses such as Comté, mature Cantal, or Époisses provide an excellent conclusion to the meal, allowing the wine’s complexity to shine through its final evolution in the glass.
