Tasting Profile

4.7
Untappd

Suffer is a monument to patience and excess from Anchorage Brewing Company — a triple barrel-aged black barleywine that spent 20 months in a rotating cast of prestigious bourbon and rye whiskey barrels before being finished on toasted coconut. The result is an ink-dark, viscous pour that opens with waves of bourbon, dark chocolate, dried fig, and toasted coconut. Deep layers of molasses, burnt caramel, and vanilla emerge with warmth, underpinned by a commanding but deliberate alcohol heat. Complex, dense, and uncompromising, Suffer rewards the patient drinker with one of the most profound barleywine experiences produced in North America.

Food Pairing

Serve alongside a wedge of aged Comté or Gruyère, whose nutty crystalline texture mirrors the bourbon oak complexity; alternatively, pair with a dark chocolate and salted caramel fondant, allowing the toasted coconut and molasses notes to echo and amplify each other.
