Untappd
Two Hundred Fathoms 2024 pours jet black with a thin tan head, exuding an immediately commanding aroma of molasses, demerara sugar, cigar smoke, dark chocolate, and Teeling whiskey. On the palate it delivers wave after wave of roasted malt, espresso, treacle, and black bread, underpinned by toffee sweetness and dark fruit. The whiskey barrel character is well-integrated — warming and present without overpowering the base stout. The finish lingers with smoky malt, a touch of port, and boozy heat, wrapped in a full-bodied, motor-oil-thick texture and low carbonation.
Food Pairing
An outstanding match for a board of aged Comté or Gruyère, whose nutty crystalline character mirrors the beer’s roasted complexity. Equally compelling alongside a dark chocolate fondant or salted caramel tart, where the whiskey barrel sweetness finds a natural counterpart.
