The Estate
Château de Beaucastel — Guardians of Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition
For over a century, the Perrin family has stewarded Château de Beaucastel, one of the most celebrated estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, France. Founded in 1909 when Pierre Perrin acquired the property, the domaine has been passed down through four generations, with each custodian deepening the estate’s commitment to biodynamic viticulture and the faithful expression of this legendary appellation’s thirteen permitted grape varieties.
The Hommage à Jacques Perrin represents the pinnacle of Beaucastel’s production—a micro-cuvée crafted exclusively in exceptional vintages to honour the visionary Jacques Perrin, who transformed the estate into a global reference point for terroir-driven Rhône wines. Produced from the oldest vines of Mourvèdre, Grenache, and Counoise, this rarified bottling captures the essence of Châteauneuf-du-Pape at its most profound and age-worthy.
Terroir & Grapes
Ancient Vines on the Plateau de la Crau
The Hommage à Jacques Perrin is sourced from a meticulously selected parcel of extremely old vines planted on Beaucastel’s renowned terroir—the galets roulés (rounded river stones) and clay-limestone soils of the Plateau de la Crau. These large quartzite pebbles absorb heat during the day and release it at night, ensuring optimal ripeness while the estate’s organic and biodynamic practices, maintained since 1964, foster extraordinary depth and complexity in the fruit.
Unlike the estate’s classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which employs all thirteen permitted varieties, this exceptional cuvée is dominated by the estate’s most venerable Mourvèdre vines, complemented by old-vine Grenache and a portion of the rare Counoise grape, creating a blend of uncommon structure and longevity.

Vinification & Ageing
Artisanal Methods for an Exceptional Cuvée
The grapes for Hommage à Jacques Perrin are hand-harvested at optimal maturity and undergo a meticulous natural fermentation in traditional concrete tanks, respecting Beaucastel’s philosophy of minimal intervention. The estate eschews destemming, allowing whole clusters to ferment, which imparts additional aromatic complexity and fine-grained tannic structure to this monumental wine.
Following fermentation, the wine is aged for approximately eighteen months in large, neutral oak foudres that allow the wine to develop without imposing overt wood character. This extended élevage in the estate’s cool cellars encourages harmonious integration while preserving the purity of fruit and the distinctive mineral signature of the terroir.
Vintage Character
2020 — A Year of Remarkable Concentration
The 2020 vintage in Châteauneuf-du-Pape is widely regarded as exceptional, characterized by a warm, dry growing season that produced wines of extraordinary concentration and aromatic intensity. Despite challenging conditions early in the year, the summer months delivered ideal ripening weather, with cool nights preserving freshness and acidity in the grapes while the legendary galets roulés ensured perfect phenolic maturity.
For Beaucastel’s old-vine parcels, 2020 has yielded wines of remarkable power and precision—structured yet harmonious, with the depth and balance to reward patient cellaring for decades. The Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2020 captures the vintage’s grandeur while maintaining the signature elegance and complexity that define this legendary cuvée.
Tasting Notes
Profound Complexity and Timeless Elegance
In the glass, the 2020 Hommage à Jacques Perrin reveals a deep, opaque ruby-purple colour with youthful intensity. The nose opens with breathtaking complexity—layers of black cherry, cassis, and wild blackberry mingle with intoxicating notes of crushed violets, garrigue herbs, black truffle, smoked game, and exotic spices including star anise and black pepper. On the palate, the wine displays monumental structure wrapped in velvety, ultra-refined tannins, with a core of concentrated dark fruit balanced by remarkable freshness and mineral tension. The finish extends seemingly without end, revealing nuances of graphite, lavender, and crushed stone that speak to the wine’s impeccable terroir pedigree and extraordinary ageing potential.
