Château Saint-Pierre — A Hidden Gem of Saint-Julien
Château Saint-Pierre holds the distinction of being the smallest of the Quatrièmes Grands Crus Classés in the 1855 Classification, with just 17 hectares of precious Saint-Julien terroir. The estate’s history dates to the 17th century, though it was divided in the 19th century before being reunified in 1982 by the Triaud family, who have meticulously restored its reputation. Under the stewardship of Henri Martin and later Jean-Louis Triaud and his daughter Françoise, Saint-Pierre has quietly emerged as one of Bordeaux’s finest value propositions among classified growths.
The château produces wines of remarkable purity and elegance, reflecting the classic Saint-Julien style with impressive depth and ageing potential. The estate benefits from exceptional vineyard parcels situated on deep Günzian gravel ridges, sharing similar terroir characteristics with its illustrious neighbours Ducru-Beaucaillou and Léoville Las Cases. This six-bottle case represents an excellent opportunity for collectors to acquire a complete half-case of this increasingly sought-after classified growth.

Terroir et raisins
Classic Saint-Julien Gravel Over Clay-Limestone
Saint-Pierre’s 17 hectares are planted on the prized gravelly plateau that defines Saint-Julien’s reputation as one of the Médoc’s most harmonious appellations. The deep Günzian gravel beds, laid down during the Quaternary period, provide excellent drainage while the underlying clay-limestone subsoil retains sufficient water reserves during dry periods. This geological composition allows the vines to develop concentrated, perfectly ripened fruit with the structure and finesse that characterize great Saint-Julien.
The vineyard is planted to a traditional Médoc blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, which thrives on these warm gravelly soils, complemented by Merlot for roundness and a touch of Cabernet Franc for aromatic complexity. The average vine age exceeds 50 years, with some parcels dating back to the 1940s, providing natural concentration and depth.
Vinification et vieillissement
Traditional Methods with Modern Precision
Château Saint-Pierre employs a meticulous winemaking approach that respects Bordeaux tradition while embracing modern precision. Following careful parcel-by-parcel hand harvesting, the fruit undergoes rigorous selection before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats. Each varietal and vineyard plot is vinified separately, allowing the winemaking team to craft the final blend with surgical precision. Maceration periods are tailored to extract optimal colour, tannin, and aromatic compounds while maintaining elegance.
The wine is aged for 15 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with approximately 60% new oak, sourced from top cooperages. The élevage is conducted in the estate’s historic cellars, where regular racking and careful monitoring ensure the wine develops complexity and structure while preserving its characteristic Saint-Julien refinement and purity of fruit.
Caractère vintage
2019 — A Modern Bordeaux Classic
The 2019 vintage in Bordeaux ranks among the finest of recent decades, delivering wines of extraordinary balance and ageing potential. The growing season was characterized by a mild winter, a warm and dry spring that ensured excellent flowering, and a textbook summer with sufficient rainfall in June followed by warm, sunny conditions through harvest. September brought ideal ripening weather, allowing phenolic maturity to catch up with sugar accumulation, resulting in wines with magnificent concentration, ripe tannins, and vibrant acidity.
In the Médoc, and particularly in Saint-Julien, 2019 produced wines of exceptional purity and classical structure. The Cabernet Sauvignon achieved optimal ripeness with thick skins and abundant anthocyanins, while maintaining the freshness and precision that define great Saint-Julien. This is a vintage that combines immediate appeal with long-term cellaring potential, and Saint-Pierre’s terroir has captured its qualities beautifully.
Notes de dégustation
Purity, Power, and Elegance in Perfect Harmony
Château Saint-Pierre 2019 presents a deep, luminous ruby-garnet colour with brilliant clarity. The nose opens with stunning purity, revealing layers of blackcurrant, black cherry, and mulberry, interwoven with notes of cedar, graphite, and tobacco leaf. Subtle hints of violet and Mediterranean herbs add aromatic complexity. On the palate, the wine displays classic Saint-Julien architecture: a core of concentrated dark fruit framed by fine-grained, beautifully integrated tannins and refreshing acidity. The mid-palate is dense yet graceful, with excellent energy driving flavours of cassis, dark plum, and liquorice toward a long, mineral-inflected finish. This is Saint-Pierre at its finest—powerful yet refined, structured yet accessible, with decades of evolution ahead.
