Tasting Profile

4.5Untappd

Revolution Brewing’s Peach Brandy Barrel D.B.V.S.O.J. pours a very dark brownish-black with a light brown head of modest retention, leaving little to no lacing — a visual cue to the immense density within the glass. The nose is immediately arresting: luscious ripe peach, bourbon-soaked oak, warm rum, buttery toffee, and a whisper of dark chocolate emerge in waves, growing more generous as the beer reaches room temperature. On the palate, the mouthfeel is thick and almost chewy, coating every surface with a viscous, plush body that belies any sense of harshness at 15.8% ABV.

Sweetness leads with caramel malt and stone fruit, followed by an interplay of bourbon richness and rum warmth. Bitterness is restrained, appearing only at the close to provide structural balance. The finish is long and warming, with peach sweetness lingering alongside soft oak tannins and a whisper of chocolate. Conceived as a multi-vintage cuvée blending young and old barrel components. Also this is a masterclass in barleywine blending with remarkable cellaring potential. Food Pairing

The Revolution Brewing Peach Brandy Barrel D.B.V.S.O.J. pairs magnificently with a well-aged Comté or Gruyère — the nutty, crystalline character of the cheese mirrors the toffee and oak of this complex barleywine. For a dessert pairing, a classic peach tarte Tatin with crème fraîche is a natural counterpart. Therefor echoing the stone fruit notes while tempering the beer’s generous warmth with a buttery, caramelized richness.
