Brasserie Cantillon

Foire Aux Questions
Brasserie Cantillon
-
What is Brasserie Cantillon and who founded it?
Brasserie Cantillon is a historic Belgian brewery founded in 1900 by Paul Cantillon in Brussels. It remains one of the last traditional producers of authentic Lambic beer, operating from the same location for over a century and maintaining ancestral brewing methods that define Brussels' beer heritage. -
Why is Cantillon famous for its beer style?
Cantillon is renowned as a master of spontaneous fermentation and traditional Lambic brewing, a complex style where wild yeasts native to Brussels' Senne Valley naturally ferment the wort. This method produces distinctive funky, sour, and fruity characteristics that cannot be replicated elsewhere, making Cantillon's beers genuinely unique. -
Which Cantillon beers are most iconic and sought after?
Cantillon's most celebrated releases include Gueuze (a blend of young and aged Lambics), Kriek (Lambic with cherries), and Vigneronne (Lambic with grapes). Their vintage-dated bottles and limited special releases command significant collector interest, with older vintages becoming increasingly rare and valuable. -
How rare is Brasserie Cantillon beer and where can I find it?
Cantillon's production is intentionally small and allocation-based, making their beers scarce globally. Distribution is selective and often assigned to specialty retailers in key markets. Availability varies significantly by vintage and product, with aged Lambics and special editions particularly difficult to source. -
Where can I buy authentic Cantillon beers in Switzerland?
Premium Swiss retailers specializing in craft and Belgian beers, including winesandspirits.ch, curate selections of Cantillon's range. Stock varies based on allocation and demand, so checking availability directly with established importers and specialty shops ensures access to both current releases and occasional vintage offerings.
