The Hakushu Distillery was founded in 1973 by Suntory deep in the Japanese Southern Alps, in Hokuto, Yamanashi Prefecture — at an altitude of 700 metres, surrounded by ancient forests and fed by the pure snowmelt waters of Mount Kaikomagatake. Known as ‘The Forest Distillery’, Hakushu is home to over 10,000 living organisms and sits within a designated bird sanctuary — its pristine natural environment is inseparable from the character of its whisky. Hakushu single malts are celebrated for their distinctive fresh, green and herbal character — crisp mountain air, white peach, green apple, a delicate peatiness and a minerality that perfectly reflects the distillery’s extraordinary alpine terroir.
