Miyagikyo 1990

The Miyagikyo Distillery was founded in 1969 by Masataka Taketsuru in the verdant Miyagi Prefecture, at the confluence of the Hirose and Nikkawa rivers near Sendai. In deliberate contrast to the rugged, peaty character of Yoichi, Miyagikyo was designed to produce a more delicate, aromatic and fruit-forward style of single malt. The distillery uses steam-heated pot stills and benefits from a cool, humid climate influenced by the nearby mountains and rivers — creating whiskies of remarkable elegance, floral complexity and refinement. Miyagikyo is a cornerstone of Nikka’s celebrated blends and produces exceptional single malts that are increasingly sought after by collectors as age-stated expressions become rarer.
