The Taketsuru range is Nikka’s tribute to its founder Masataka Taketsuru — the visionary ‘Father of Japanese Whisky’ who studied distilling in Scotland in the 1910s, married a Scottish woman, Rita Cowan, and returned to Japan to build the Japanese whisky industry from nothing. Named in his honour, the Taketsuru Pure Malt is a vatted malt combining whiskies from both the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries — a direct expression of Taketsuru’s lifelong philosophy that the greatest whisky comes from the art of blending complementary single malts. Age-stated expressions of Taketsuru — particularly the 17, 21 and 25 Year Old — are among the most celebrated and collectible Japanese whiskies, now discontinued and commanding significant premiums on the secondary market.
