The Yamazaki Distillery is the birthplace of Japanese whisky \u2014 founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, the founder of Suntory, in a valley south of Kyoto where the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers meet. This exceptional location, where warm and cool air currents converge to create a uniquely humid microclimate, has defined the character of Yamazaki single malt for over a century. Yamazaki pioneered the use of Japanese Mizunara oak \u2014 an incredibly rare and porous wood that imparts extraordinary aromas of incense, sandalwood, coconut and exotic spice found nowhere else in the world of whisky.
